How is Typhoon Created?

  1. Typhoons are made in areas where the temperature of seawater in the tropical sea is between 5° and 25° south and north latitude is over 27°C. From spring to fall, when the temperature of seawater increases, northeast and southeast trade winds meet in tropical seas.

  2. The winds also soar up to create clumps of clouds. When a vortex happens to form in a cloud, it absorbs water vapor from the tropical sea and grows. Using the energy supplied by water vapor, typhoons get bigger and bigger.

  3. Typhoons become more powerful as they pass warm seas, and they become less powerful as they pass cold seas or land.

How Typhoon Comes to Korea?

unnamed (1).png

Korea is influenced by the west wind because it is located at 38 degrees north latitude. Therefore, it is directly affected when a typhoon crosses 30 degrees north latitude and passes near Korea or Japan. Created in the tropical sea between 5° and 25° south and north, after absorbing a lot of warm water vapor, it becomes a powerful typhoon and moves north on a west wind.

This photo shows the route of the latest typhoon to the north, Hinamno. As shown in the figure, Hinnamnor can be seen as moving northward under the influence of the west wind. Hinnamnor is one of the strongest typhoons of all time and has caused a lot of damage not only to Korea but also to Japan.

Due to global warming, the temperature of seawater gradually increased, making it easier for typhoons to be created. In order to prevent more material and human casualties, the world should make efforts to prevent further global warming and protect the environment.
